Bike Tours

Amsterdam  city is incredibly bike friendly. In fact, there are more bikes than people! If you are physically able, you must take a bike tour. There are numerous companies that rent out bikes or offer guided tours. Most bike tours are reasonably priced and may offer deals for students or groups. Bike tours that go outside the city are particularly great as they show another side of Amsterdam. Without a doubt, biking is an essential Amsterdam experience.

Amsterdam city: Museums

Amsterdam is home to 75 museums. From the historical Anne Frank House to the absurd Torture Museum, Amsterdam city has a wide range for all interests. There is even a Houseboat Museum! The most popular are the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk Museum. Some museums, especially the Anne Frank House, may require ticket purchases in advance. In this case, it’s important to research beforehand. Otherwise, visitors are sure to find a museum to their liking.

Heineken Experience

Even if you’re not a beer fan, the Heineken Experience is still great to see. Founded in Amsterdam in 1864, Heineken is one of the biggest beer companies in the world. The Heineken Experience offers visitors a chance to see authentic brewery interiors and various historical pieces from the company’s past. Markets

Amsterdam city has many markets that offer great souvenirs and delicious treats. The Bloemenmarkt is famous for its flowers and the Waterlooplein Flea Market is great for bargaining. There are also wonderful Sunday markets at Westerpark on the first Sunday of every month. If you are lucky enough to be in the city for this, be sure to try the fresh apple cider – it’s unreal!

Windmills

Windmills played a significant role in the Netherland’s past. There are some still standing around Amsterdam city that are worth seeing. The De Gooyer Windmill, a former flour mill, is the tallest wooden windmill in the Netherlands. De Riekermolen dates back to 1636 and is perfectly picturesque by the water. Visiting a windmill is another must do activity in beautiful Amsterdam.
